Police arrest robbery, carjack, double-murder suspect in Inglewood

A murder suspect was taken into custody Thursday evening after carjacking a vehicle and dragging a man for nearly a mile before crashing in Inglewood.

The male suspect was wanted for allegedly killing a person while robbing a Topanga-area jewelry store a few months ago, and police attempted to arrest him at his residence in South LA, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. He fled the home and entered a vehicle with another suspect, but it crashed in the area of Florence and Haas Avenues.

The murder suspect exited the vehicle and carjacked the victim’s red SUV with that man entangled in the car. He was dragged along the street for nearly a mile before being knocked free and later pronounced dead at the scene. A public identification of the man was pending family notification.

The suspect crashed the vehicle about 7:15 p.m. in the area of East Florence Avenue and North Prairie Avenue, near Edward Vincent Jr. Park, according to the LAPD. The vehicle flipped over and became inoperable, but he refused to exit.

A SWAT team was called in and the suspect eventually surrendered and was taken into custody shortly before 9 p.m. The driver who crashed the other vehicle was also taken into custody, according to police.
