The Los Angeles Dodgers will seek their seventh consecutive victory and 18th in 20 games when they face the San Francisco Giants Saturday in the third game of a four-game series at Dodger Stadium.
Julio Urías (8-6) is set to start for the Dodgers while fellow left-hander Alex Wood (6-7) is scheduled to start for the Giants.
Urías has a 5-0 record and 3.06 ERA in his last six starts, including allowing one run in seven innings in a 7-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels last Saturday in his most recent appearance.
He is 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA in two starts against San Francisco this season and 3-4 with a 2.45 ERA lifetime.
Wood is 1-2 with a 4.24 ERA in his last five starts. He had a no decision in his most recent start July 15, allowing three unearned runs in 4 2/3 innings in the Giants’ 8-5 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, in a game they led 2-1 when Wood was relieved with two outs in the top of the fifth and runners on first and third.
Wood allowed three runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings and was charged with the loss in a 9-1 loss to the Dodgers May 4, his only appearance against them in 2022.
Wood pitched for the Dodgers from 2015 through 2018 and again in 2020. He pitched in the 2017 All-Star Game during a season in which he won a career-high 16 games. He has reached double digits in victories once since then, going 10-4 for San Francisco in 2021.
The Dodgers are 10-8 in Urías’ 18 starts. The Giants are 8-10 in Wood’s 18 starts.
All seven games between the Dodgers and San Francisco in 2022 have been won by the home team. The Dodgers swept a two-game series May 3-4 at Dodger Stadium, were swept in a three-game series at Oracle Park June 10-12 and have won both games of this series, including a 5-1 victory Friday night, when Cody Bellinger broke a tie with an eighth-inning grand slam on an 0-2 pitch from Sam Long with two outs.
The Dodgers’ 62-30 record is the best in the National League and second-best in MLB behind the New York Yankees (65-30). Their 10 1/2-game lead over the San Diego Padres for the NL West lead matches their season high.
San Francisco (48-45) is in third in the NL West, 14 1/2 games behind the Dodgers, and one game behind Philadelphia in the race for the National League’s third and final wild-card playoff berth.
The game is set to start at 4:15 p.m. and will be televised by Fox.
