Visitors to the Hollywood Bowl will be met with stepped-up security measures at future performances, thanks to changes prompted by the on-stage attack of comedian Dave Chappelle.
Chappelle escaped injury Tuesday night when a man from the crowd leapt on stage and tackled the comedian while he was performing. Police said the man was armed with a replica handgun that contained a switchblade.
In response to the assault that made worldwide headlines, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association announced that it is taking a closer look at all security procedures at the venue.
“The safety of our artists, visitors and staff is the LA Phil’s top priority,” according to the association, which operates the Bowl. “We are reviewing our existing procedures both internally and with the assistance of outside experts so we can continue to provide a safe and secure environment at the Hollywood Bowl.
“We have implemented additional security measures, including an increased number of security personnel on-site to assist with bag checks and other security procedures. We continue to cooperate with authorities in their ongoing investigation.”
