A mountain Lion was struck and killed Thursday near a major freeway near Brentwood.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol received a call just before 1 a.m about an animal lying of the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway south of Getty Center Drive exit, CHP confirmed.
The collision briefly closed the freeway.
It was unknown if the mountain lion was the popular but rarely seen P22 cat, who attained worldwide fame for his penchant for crossing major freeways, including the 405 and the Ventura (101) Freeway. He was born in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The killing of the mountain lion comes one day before the groundbreaking of the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing, a bridge in Agoura Hills for wildlife crossing that is being called the largest animal crossing in the world, according to CBS 2.
