Applications are now available for the Watts-Willowbrook Conservatory and Youth Orchestra, which has provided music education to youth ages 7 to 18 in the South Los Angeles, Watts and Compton area for a dozen years.

Beginning, intermediate and advanced violin and cello students are welcome to apply online at www.sappa.net for classes that begin in February. An online string program is also available.

“WWC is a parent driven program that provides high quality music education that builds character, self-esteem and discipline,” according to a press release. “Participants attend after school, one-hour classes twice a week, where they learn to read music and play symphonic string instruments. Students must provide their own instrument.” Special discounts are available for student instrument purchase or loan.

The free program is possible through the support of foundations such as The Herb Alpert Foundation, The Colburn Foundation, The California Arts Council, LA Arts Recovery Fund and LA Phil Partnership in Music Learning.
