A man was killed when he was struck by a car while crossing a Long Beach street, and the hit-and-run motorist was being sought Monday.

The man was struck about 7:50 p.m. Sunday at Willow Street and Myrtle Avenue, and he died at a hospital, according to the Long Beach Police Department. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

“Detectives learned a red sedan traveling eastbound on Willow Street struck a 65-year-old male pedestrian crossing southbound in the unmarked crosswalk at Myrtle Avenue,” police said in a statement.

“The red sedan fled the scene and did not return,” police said. “At this time, it is unknown if alcohol, drugs, or speed were a factor in this collision, and the investigation remains ongoing.”

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call detectives at 562-570-5130, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. To issue an anonymous tip online, go to lacrimestoppers.org.
