Coroner identifies 50-year-old man fatally shot in El Monte

Authorities Monday identified a man who was fatally shot while sitting in his car in El Monte.

The attack happened about 12:15 p.m. Sunday in the 3800 block of Gilman Road, according to Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Steven Rivera, 50, died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. No arrests were reported, and no suspect information was available.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives were assisting the El Monte Police Department with the investigation, Schrader said. A motive for the killing was unknown.

Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to call the LASD homicide unit at 323-890-5500. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222- 8477.
