7-year-old girl reported missing after custody court hearing, mother sought

Police Thursday were searching for a 7-year-old girl and her 27-year-old mother who have not been seen since a court hearing that awarded custody of the girl to her father.

Quin’ye Mitchell’s parents — Quincy Mitchell and Quanique Taylor — have an ongoing custody battle for the girl and appeared in family court on Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The court found that Quin’ye was “at imminent risk of harm” while in Taylor’s custody and awarded temporary sole legal and physical custody to Mitchell. Taylor left the courtroom “to an unknown location” immediately after the ruling and has not been seen since.

Mitchell last saw Quin’ye at a previous court hearing on May 7, and Taylor has not followed court orders to relinquish custody of the girl, police said.

Quin’ye is Black, about 3 feet tall and weighs approximately 65 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Quanique Taylor is Black, 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pink dress with pink-and-gold slippers.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts was asked to contact LAPD Southeast Detectives at 213-972-7829. Calls made during non-business hours or on weekends can be directed to 877-527-3247.
