Flames destroyed a hillside home in Pacific Palisades Thursday morning but there were no injuries and firefighters prevented spread to adjacent brush.
The fire was first reported at 3:49 a.m. at 766 N. Pasaeo Miramar, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.
Heavy fire was showing when firefighters arrived, Stewart said. All occupants were out of the home, but the hillside location and a partial collapse of the structure prevented firefighters from getting on top of and inside it — and flames were dangerously close to surrounding vegetation, she said.
Some 78 firefighters took up defensive positions outside the house and managed to prevent spread to neighboring structures and vegetation, Stewart said.
The flames were out at 5:32 a.m., and firefighters were left to locate and put out hot spots, she said.
The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety and LAFD Search and Rescue were called to determine the stability of the remaining structure and how to shore it up, Stewart said.
The cause and dollar value of the loss were yet to be determined, she said.
