Firefighters will work Tuesday to put out hot spots in a brush fire near the Golden State (5) Freeway in Gorman that has burned about 1,000 acres and was 65 percent contained.

There is more vegetation to clear around the fire, but its forward progress has been stopped and there are no more active flames, Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Jeremy Stafford told City News Service.

The Tumbleweed Fire was reported at 1:34 p.m. Sunday at Gorman Road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Cal Fire. It was 65 percent contained, Cal Fire said early Tuesday morning. It had been 50 percent contained as of Monday night.

The blaze forced evacuations around the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area in Gorman.

LACo Fire reported Monday night that there were no firefighter injuries, counter to earlier reports of two minor injuries.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department requested fixed-wing aircraft Sunday afternoon to help battle the fire.

A second alarm was declared, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department advised people to stay away from the area.

No structure damage was reported.

A 12-acre brush fire also broke out Sunday afternoon in nearby Agua Dulce, near the 10500 block of Dale Road. Firefighters fully contained that fire Sunday evening.
