Man killed in Lynwood shooting, second man wounded

A man in his 40s was shot and killed in an apparent gang-related incident in Lynwood, and the shooter was at large Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Deputies from the Century Station responded about 6:50 p.m. Tuesday to a gunshot victim call in a motel parking lot in the 10800 block of Atlantic Avenue, near Imperial Highway, where they found two men in a white SUV suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Both men were taken to a hospital, where the man in his 40s was pronounced dead. The second victim, a man in his 20s, was treated for what appeared to be non-life-threatening wounds and his condition was unknown, Koerner said.

Deputies had responded to at least two additional calls of assaults with a gun in the area minutes before the victims were discovered, and investigators were trying to determine if the calls were related, he said.

The suspect was last seen running away on Imperial Highway, and the murder weapon has not been recovered, Koerner said.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.
