Here at LA CANVAS, we love our street art. The pop of color in an otherwise industrial landscape, the varying disgruntled and playful aesthetics, the excitement in spotting beauty in the most unexpected of places. We stumbled upon the emerging womenswear designer Lauren Pilgreen’s look book for her “Botched Restoration” resort collection, an eclectic mix of graffiti, classical art, and contemporary design that inspires us to combine our appreciation of luxury clothing with our love for the rebellious street spirit.
“Botched Restoration,” she explains, “is the analysis of different methods of de- slash-reconstruction, poking fun at a generation built on over-edited images.”
The British and Chinese educated LA native, who in May of 2015 was nominated for “Emerging Designer of the Year” at the IDA for her collaboration collection “Cadaver,” uses crude brush work, digitally enhanced imperfections, and unraveled fibers to assert her belief that true beauty lies within the wear and tear of time.
This semi-surreal campaign uses pop-imagery and whimsical sketches to promote an alternative type of beauty, one we are anxious to see more of in the fashion industry.
