One dusty weekend this past August, we left the convenient air-conditioned vacuums of our apartments for the slick grips of sweaty crowds at our favorite indie oasis slash music festival, F*ck Yeah Fest. With its humble origins in Echo Park ten years ago, FYF has now grown to epic festival proportions, bringing in headliner acts like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and My Bloody Valentine. Prepped by our FYF Survival Guide, we confidently ventured on over to LA State Historic Park to prove our undying loyalty to our favorite acts by dancing and swaying, unfazed, in the blazing hot sun.

Because we’re sure you’ve read a million recaps and Facebook statuses about FYF by now, we’ll be brief in our summation:

Most memorable act: Charles Bradley. This bonafide soul singer jived, pelvic thrusted, and wailed his way into our hearts.

Favorite band name: Horse Meat Disco. ‘nough said.

Most hypnotizing: Chelsea Wolfe. This LA-based singer-songwriter’s control over the crowd was supreme and haunting.

Had the whole crowd dancing: Flume. This Aussie charmer’s deft mixing of sunny melodies, electro sensibilities and heavy basslines had us ditching our peeps to get to the front of the stage.

Most unexpected: Antwon. It was a nice change of pace to hear rap at a music festival dominated by indie rock and electronic acts. Apparently this guy’s latest single is named “Dying in the Pussy.” Intriguing.

See below for some style snaps from the festival:
