You would think that kids these days enjoy spending most of their time in front of their electronic gadgets, learning and playing games on them. This past Sunday proved otherwise! Beacon Media and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) presented its inaugural Board Games Connecting Cultures event, whose mission it is to teach children how to play board games from all over the world in order to provide a better mutual cultural understanding. The program, taught by international instructors, saw volunteers from Ethiopia, Taiwan, Columbia, Germany, and the United States come together to share some of their favorite childhood board games, such as Gebet’a, Mensch ärgere dich nicht, Chinese chess, and more, with children from the surrounding area at the TECO Cultural Center in El Monte.
TECO also featured a tour of their facility. The lucky raffle winners received an $800 value gift certificate for a family portrait by photographer Bea Lamar and a pair of Clippers tickets.
