When You Are Willing to Take Risks, You Will Achieve Your Goals

By Laura Wilcox

George Shearing, a well know jazz pianist, had been blind since birth. One day as an adult he was standing at a busy street corner in London waiting for someone to come by and help him cross the street. Another blind man came up to Shearing and put his hand on George’s shoulder and asked for help to cross the street. Shearing didn’t tell the man that he also was blind and decided to walk both of them through traffic. Shearing thought it was a thrill.

Don’t think of risks as a possible failure. Don’t let the risk fill you with fear and keep you from achieving a set goal.

Taking a risk can bring out one of the three phases of fear in you. In phase #1 fear can keep you from doing anything. It can cause you to freeze up. Fear can cause you to not make any attempts at improving your life. In phase #2 you may find that you are able to work through the fear, but then as soon as you fail, you stop any actions towards success. And in phase #3 you decide that fear cannot control you, so you keep moving forward and taking action. The fear still tends to come up for you, but you keep pushing through and you keep taking forward action even if failures occur.

Take the risk. You never know what great adventures you will have.
