On Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at about 11:43 p.m., Police and Fire Department personnel responded to Marengo Avenue and Villa Street regarding a report of a traffic collision with injuries.

Upon arrival, first responders found that a bicyclist, who was traveling northbound on Marengo Avenue, had been struck by a vehicle that was traveling in the same direction. The cyclist was critically injured as a result of the collision and the driver of the vehicle had fled the scene of the accident. Witnesses of the collision described the vehicle as an early 2000s Mercedes Benz and the driver was described as a female. The cyclist, who is a juvenile, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

With the information provided by a witness, Pasadena Police officers contacted the Glendora Police Department for assistance. Glendora Police officers located the Mercedes Benz and detained the driver, 35 year old Yiting Kang. Kang, who is a Fontana resident, was not injured in the collision and the preliminary investigation indicates Kang was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. She was arrested by the Pasadena Police Department, transported and booked at the Pasadena jail for hit-and-run and DUI resulting in serious injury/death.

This collision is being investigated by the Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
