
Aug. 1
Around 9:28 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call with an open line where a woman could be heard screaming in the background. On arrival at the 800 block of Locust Avenue they confronted a male leaving the apartment and detained him to investigate further. Upon contacting the victim they learned the man they had detained was the victim’s boyfriend, who assaulted her with pepper spray, grabbed her by the neck and strangled her after being kicked in the ribs. Both the victim and suspect were transported to the hospital for treatment. The victim was released after treatment and the suspect was transported to the Pasadena City Jail where he was booked for attempted murder.
Around 4:22 p.m., a petty theft was reported from a local area on the 100 block of West California Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers conducted a canvas of the area and located an individual similar in description to the petty theft suspect accompanied by a female. The responding officer detained the possible suspect near the intersection of Bellevue St. and Raymond Ave. When the officer was contacting the suspect, he appeared to be secreting something inside a bag that the female was holding. A subsequent search of the bag revealed the male hid a 9mm handgun in the bag. The male was found to be a convicted felon and sex registrant as he was arrested for possession of the handgun. He was eliminated as the suspect from the theft. The female was also cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Aug. 2
Around 2:10 p.m., PPD Officers responded to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Security at the location advised that a student who indicated she wanted to shoot up the school was being detained on campus. The officers arrived and contacted the suspect who stated she was having financial difficulty and was frustrated that the Art School would not fund her requested loan. The suspect admitted to making the statements. No weapons were found and she was placed on a 72 hour psychological hold.
Aug. 3
Around 1:55 a.m., officers responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the 1400 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue. The callers reported hearing a male and female in an argument and then four to six gunshots. Upon arrival, Officers canvassed the area and located evidence of a shooting. No suspects or victims were located or even described. The evidence was collected and the investigation continues.
Around 6:35 a.m., PPD officers responded to Huntington Hospital on report of a battery. Officers arrived and contacted the victim who stated at approx. 5:20 a.m. he was dropped off by an UBER in the 1400 block of N. Marengo Ave. As the victim was walking home, he was approached by two suspects who demanded his money. The victim stated the suspects punched and kick him and ultimately took his electronics. No further details.
Around 8:44pm., PPD Officers responded to several calls of shots fired in the area of Glen Avenue and Wyoming Street. Officers arrived on scene and canvased the area for victims and evidence. Officers observed evidence of a shooting and local hospitals were advised. There were no reported victims as of this date.
Aug. 4
Around 1:45 a.m., Officers responded to a possible drunk driver in the area of Walnut Street and Allen Avenue that was seen swerving and crashed into a parked vehicle. The caller advised there was a young child in the vehicle and it appeared as if the driver was attempting to flee. Units located the vehicle disabled on the sidewalk in the area. Officers detained the driver and found the child was unharmed. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle. The driver was believed to be under the influence and arrested for DUI and child endangerment. The Department of Children and Family Services were notified.
Around 10:39 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of North Halstead Avenue on a report of robbery that had taken place. Two pedestrians indicated they were approach by two suspects who demanded their wallets. The victims indicated they believed the suspects were armed however, no weapons were seen. The victims were not injured and relinquished their electronics, wallets and jewelry.
Around 11:43 p.m., an officer observed a group at Allen Avenue and Wagner Street near midnight and approached them. A male in the group began to quickly walk away and the officer saw him attempting to conceal a rifle next to his body. The officer ordered the suspect to stop and when he did it was apparent that the weapon he was holding was an AR-15 assault style rifle. The officer ordered the group to the ground and called for back-up. Once additional officers arrived, an extended rifle magazine, loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, was confiscated from the suspect. Investigation revealed that the gun was properly registered to the suspect but the extended loaded magazine was a violation of law. The suspect was arrested for the violations as the rifle was confiscated and booked into evidence. It was not clear what the suspect intended to do with the weapon, but the officer’s observation was successful at removing another potentially devastating weapon from the street without incident.
Aug. 7
Around 6:17 p.m., PPD responded to a shots fired call at Lincoln Avenue & Clinton Street. As officers were responding, Huntington Hospital notified Police Dispatch that a victim of a gunshot had been dropped off at the hospital. The victim suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was admitted to the hospital and was completely uncooperative with the investigation, which remains on-going.
Aug. 9
Around 12:08 a.m., officers responded to an Ice Rink, 300 E. Green St., for a fight amongst two hockey teams with a player unconscious. The fight began at the end of the game. After the fight was broken up by referees, the suspect sucker-punched the victim, knocking him unconscious. The victim was seen by paramedics at the scene for a possible concussion but refused to be transported. The suspect remained at the scene and was arrested for an assault with a deadly weapon.
Around 10:49 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block Painter Street regarding a shooting victim. Upon arrival, they located a male adult suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital but later died. Two men were located the following week and were formally charged with murder. Three firearms were also recovered during this investigation.
Around 7:09 a.m., the victim was in his bedroom on the 1500 block of Monte Vista Street when he heard some rummaging sounds in the residence. An unknown male then opened the victim’s bedroom door and told the victim to stay in the bedroom. The victim called 911 and walked outside of his residence to wait for officers to arrive. The residence was searched for the suspect which met with negative results. The investigation is ongoing.
Aug. 10
Around 4:39 p.m., officers were providing extra service at local area hotels on the 2000 block of East Colorado Boulevard when they observed a vehicle illegally parked in a no parking zone. They made contact with the owner of the vehicle and discovered that he had a warrant for his arrest. A search of the suspect’s vehicle also revealed evidence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the suspect’s room revealed a pound of methamphetamine, with indicia of narcotic sales, two firearms and further evidence of identity theft. Two suspects were arrested for the possession for sales of narcotics and booked at the Pasadena PD jail.
Around 4:55 p.m., officers responded to the 1300 block of North Lake Avenue on a report of a man with an axe threating people inside a store. Officers contacted the suspect, who had exited the store, and took him into custody without incident. The axe was recovered and the suspect was found to be suffering from mental health issues. He was arrested and transported to PPD jail. No injuries were sustained during this incident.
Around 10:48 p.m., the victim was standing by his vehicle pm the 300 block of East Parke Street when he was approached by a male who asked him for the gold necklace he was wearing. When the victim refused, the suspect attempted to grab the necklace by striking the victim on the back of the neck. The victim ran toward an apartment building and the victim followed for a short while before fleeing. The victim retained his necklace but when he returned to his vehicle, the cell phone and cash he had left in his open vehicle were missing. Officers searched the area for the suspect, but were unable to locate him.
Aug. 13
Around 2:59 p.m., the male suspect and female victim were married but separated. The suspect went to the victim’s place of business and threatened staff members while holding a knife. The Police Department was notified and officers responded to the 800 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue. The suspect fled the location on foot while officers were responding. While looking for the suspect, the male returned to the location holding the knife in his hand. Officers confronted the suspect but he refused to cooperate with orders to drop the knife. Officers took swift and decisive action to take the suspect into custody using less lethal means. During this process, the suspect stabbed himself in the throat. He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, and is facing felony criminal threats charges. No police department personnel were injured during the incident.
Around 9:23 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of North Mentor Avenue regarding a disturbance. Upon arrival, they found the victim suffering from stab wounds to his upper torso. He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Preliminary investigation suggests the victim and suspect are possibly known to one another, however that could not be immediately confirmed. The investigation is ongoing.
Aug. 15
Around 8:15 a.m., officers responded to a call of shots heard in the area of Hammond St. & Summit Ave. Witnesses who heard the shots described a white “gardening type” pick-up truck slowly leaving the area around that time, but were unsure if it was involved. Officers canvassed the area and located evidence that a shooting had occurred, but no victims or strike marks were located.
Aug. 17
Around 4:57 p.m., A Park Safety Specialist was monitoring two different crowds who had gathered at Brookside Park for unrelated events. One event was a re-pass for a local Pasadena resident and the other gathering involved members of motorcycle club. During the events, a female began physically assaulting a male, who turned out to be her ex-husband, punching him numerous times. It was unclear as to which event the suspect and victim were attending. The Park Safety Specialist requested assistance and several officers responded. As the airship arrived, the aircrew observed the fight and directed ground units to the victim who had begun to walk away from the assaultive female. He was detained and found in possession of a loaded handgun. The serial number from the gun had been completely obliterated. The male victim was arrested for gun possession and the female was taken into custody for domestic violence.
Around 7:16 p.m., officers responded to La Pintoresca Park regarding a female who had stabbed the male victim in the neck with a bottle. When officers arrived, it was learned the victim had been transported to Huntington Hospital by an unknown associate and the female suspect had fled. It is unclear as to what lead to the assault with the bottle, but it is believed the suspect and victim have previously been involved in a romantic relationship. The victim was contacted was completely uncooperative with the investigation. Officers contacted several “witnesses” at La Pintoresca Park, none of whom were helpful with the investigation. They did not locate the weapon nor was the suspect located. The victim did not sustain any life threatening injuries as a result of the assault.
Aug. 19
Around 2:21 a.m., residents were awakened to their alarm going off and discovered someone trying to break into their back window on the 1100 block of Romney Dr. When confronted, the suspect claimed she was at the wrong house and left. Responding officers located the suspect in the area and after a field show up arrested her for the attempt burglary.
Aug. 20
Around 2:50 a.m., police received a call from a homeowner on the 300 block of S. Avenue 64 who said two suspects had broken into his home and he was watching them remotely from another city. The house was vacant but used for storage by his family. Officers arrived at the location and ordered the suspects out but they failed to cooperate. Pasadena K9 Edo and his partner responded along with an additional K9 team from South Pasadena. The dogs located the two burglars inside the house, hiding amongst the stored belongings. Neither was bitten or injured during the arrest. Officers determined the suspects made entry to the residence by prying open a back window. The suspects were booked for residential burglary as well as outstanding warrants.
Aug. 22
Around 8:50 p.m., officers responded to a robbery at the “Sunglass Hut.” Initially, two female entered the store, looked around and left. Minutes later, two females and two males entered the store. The two females who initially entered, re-entered the store. All six subjects began grabbing sunglasses and placing them in bags. As the subjects were fleeing the business, the sales associate was assaulted. The suspects got into two cars and fled the area. An observant witness saw what was occurring and wrote down a license number to one of the getaway vehicles. The owner of the vehicle, later that day, committed a double homicide in the City of Los Angeles. The owner was later arrested by a Fugitive Apprehension Unit and admitted being at the scene of the Pasadena robbery. She was later turned over to the LAPD for processing.
Aug. 24
Around 11:44 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of N. Hudson Ave. in regard to a female calling that her boyfriend pointed a handgun at her. Officers arrived and detained the suspect without incident. During the investigation, Officers learned the suspect threatened to kill the victim while pointing a gun at her. A loaded firearm was recovered from the location and the suspect was booked in the Pasadena jail.
Aug. 25
Around 1:01 a.m., while on patrol officers saw a vehicle leaving a motel in the area of Colorado Blvd. & San Gabriel Ave. and noticed the vehicle’s brake light was not operating. Officers conducted a traffic stop and contacted the driver. Officers established probable cause to search the vehicle and found approximately one pound of methamphetamine inside a bag in backseat. Officers learned the driver was staying at a room at the motel. They contacted a female inside the suspect’s hotel room and authored a search warrant for the room. Inside the room officers found 2 additional pounds of methamphetamine and paraphernalia associated with the sales of narcotics. Both suspects were arrested for possession of narcotics for sales.
Around 7:51 a.m., PPD received a call from an electric company supervisor who indicated an employee, who is an ex-police officer, threatened to kill himself and his supervisor, with a firearm, at their place of employment. Officers made contact with the suspect employee at his Pasadena residence on the 1800 block of N. El Molino Ave. and arrested him for the threats that were made against his supervisor. One firearm was recovered from the location.
Aug. 28
Around 12:15 p.m., neighbors heard glass breaking and observed a suspect entering a residence on the 300 block of Eaton Dr. The witness called the police then saw the suspect run out of the house, getting into an awaiting gold coupe. The car drove south on Sunnyslope Ave. and onto the westbound 210 Freeway. The police helicopter was in the area and directed ground units to its location. The vehicle failed to yield to the police vehicles and continued to the Fair Oaks /Marengo off ramp, where it exited. The vehicle made multiple evasive turns trying to lose the pursuing vehicles, but the units and helicopter were able to keep the car in sight until it crashed at Fair Oaks Ave. and Hammond St. Both occupants fled from the vehicle but the helicopter observer continued to direct ground units to their location. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident. The passenger was bleeding from an injury on his leg and he was immediately transported to a local hospital. Investigation revealed that this subject cut his leg breaking into the residence, then stole a towel from inside the house to contain the bleeding. Both suspects were arrested for residential burglary and evading the police.
Around 10:30 p.m., officers responded to 400 N. Garfield Ave. regarding a male attempting to enter the residence with a handgun. The victim stated that the suspect knocked on the apartment door. When the victim opened the door, an unknown suspect pointed a handgun at the victim. The victim attempted to shut the door, but the suspect held it open with his foot. Aug. 29
Around 1:16 a.m., officers responded to the Colorado Street Bridge regarding a male who called Police Dispatch and stated he was suicidal, standing on the outside rail of the bridge. Upon arrival, Officers contacted the male, who was inside of the security chain link fencing and standing on an alcove. Officers began negotiating with him in order to get him to agree to come back over. At one point the male climbed over the outer wrought iron fencing and was on the outside of the bridge. Officers trained as crisis negotiators continued to deescalate the male and got him to come back into the alcove. After about one hour of further negotiations, the male agreed to come over the fence. The male was taken into custody and transported for psychiatric evaluation.
Aug. 31
Around 11:22 p.m., PPD Officers responded to a subject who was passed out on the side walk at 301 N. Lake Ave. Officers contacted the subject, who was intoxicated, and woke him up. The subject was immediately combative with the officers and ran into the street and took a combative stance as the officers ordered him back to the side of the road. As the subject aggressively approached the officers, he refused to follow commands. One officer deployed his Taser, however, the subject continued to fight with the officers. Additional officers arrived to assist with taking the subject into custody. The subject was subsequently taken into custody and transported to PPD jail.
