The community is invited to attend the Stronger than the Stigma Mental Health Fair hosted by the Marshall Fundamental Girls Build Los Angeles (GBLA) Team on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marshall Fundamental Sports Complex. The fair will feature activities booths, yoga, mindfulness, and art. GBLA will extend resources and provide a space to learn and reflect. In addition there will be music, guest speakers, and more.

The school’s GBLA Team is composed of 31 girls and three advisors. On Dec. 15, 2017, 45 Marshall Fundamental female students and five chaperones attended a GBLA Leadership Summit where they heard from women like U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, Olympic athlete Ibtihaj Muhammad and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The girls were so inspired by what they heard that in September of the 2018-2019 school year a handful of girls took action and formed the Marshall Fundamental GBLA Club.

Since then they have organized under a health and wellness platform and have been working to raise awareness around mental health stigmas. GBLA’s goal is to raise awareness and provide prevention information and intervention resources on mental health while providing other students a space for open dialogue. Now they anticipate having an impact on their school’s population and the community with this health fair.
