The Pasadena Lapidary Society (PLS) will hold its program meeting at the Pasadena Main Library, Donald Wright Auditorium on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. This month’s speaker is PLS member Janie Duncan, a third-generation rock hound, who will present “A History of Beads.” This month’s featured rock will be psilomelane presented by Mona Ross. This meeting is free of charge and open to the public.
PLS is a non-profit organization that seeks to promote learning about the earth sciences, rocks and minerals, and the lapidary arts. The club accomplishes this with field trips to collect rocks; a workshop to learn and use methods of cutting, shaping, carving and polishing rocks and gemstones; presentations to schools and community groups regarding rocks and minerals; monthly program meetings where speakers present topics on earth sciences and lapidary arts; and an annual show.
This spring PLS will host the California Federation of Mineralogical Societies Convention and Show on March 8-10, at Fairplex in Pomona inside Expo Building 6. To find out more, visit pasadenalapidary.org.
