YWCA needs help empowering young girls
The Pasadena-Foothill Valley YWCA is organizing a Girls’ Empowerment Summer Camp. It’s coming up soon, and they’re planning some amazing trips! One trip that is really exciting is a visit to UCLA for a campus tour and an exploration of the Hammer Museum. The girls will get to experience UCLA with the student activist group MEChA on their “People of Color Tour—focused on UCLA’s rich history of student activism.” If available, some MEChistAs will donate their time in a Q&A with the girls. Afterward, camp girls will have lunch and a treat at Diddy Riese Cookies in the nearby Westwood Village.
Following lunch, the girls will visit the Hammer Museum: “The Hammer understands that art not only has the power to transport us through aesthetic experience but can also provide significant insight into some of the most pressing cultural, political, and social questions of our time. We share the unique and invaluable perspectives that artists have on the world around us.

YWCA wants to take girls to UCLA! They can’t provide this opportunity for personal and academic growth without help. Make sure that the young girls YWCA supports have an amazing summer, and donate as soon as possible.
The Girls’ Empowerment Summer Camp builds self-esteem and new friendships, explores new ideas, develops fresh skills, and empowers girls to dream big. Every year, there are stories from the girls that attend and their parents about how much their self-confidence has grown, how much time they spend with their new friends outside of camp, and how much they look forward to attending again. The camp provides countless activities based on several components: physical, emotional, spiritual, environmental, intellectual and social wellness to provide a well-rounded experience for the girls. The focus of the camp is to allow the girls to have experiences that will expand their possibilities, especially in the areas of STEM, higher education, and social justice.

The camp runs from July 3 – July 28, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., for girls ages 10-14.
