If you have been considering acquiring a devoted companion, the Pasadena Humane Society is giving you the perfect opportunity with its annual “Free Adoption Day” next Thursday, June 23.

Adoption fees will be waived for all available animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles, etc., for the entire day. The shelter is located at 361 S. Raymond Ave. in Pasadena. The shelter will be open on that day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The free adoptions are being done to open up addition space in the shelter before the summer season. It is especially important to make room before the July 4 celebration, as many animals are frightened by the noise on that day and run away and become lost. This is also a great opportunity to adopt a fully-grown pet (with the added advantage of acquiring a pet that someone else has trained).

Last year’s Free day saw 46 cats, 18 dogs, three rabbits, and an iguana find new homes. “Last year’s Free Adoption Day exceeded all expectations,” says Kevin McManus, adoptions supervisor. “We hope to have just as many, if not more, adoptions this year.”

All dog and cat adoptions include spay or neuter surgery, a micro-chip,- and a set of vaccines. New adopters will receive a complimentary health-and-wellness exam from VCA Animal Hospitals, as well as a goody bag filled with information about how to care for your pet.

The event is open to residents of any city looking to adopt a pet. Regular adoption policies and screening apply. To expedite the adoption process, print an adoption application in advance on our website. If you rent, bring proof you are allowed to have a pet at your residence. Ample parking is available onsite. View all animals at the shelter online at pasadenahumane.org/adopt.
