The bravery of one young Monrovia woman exercising her constitutional rights Friday afternoon was marred by several supporters at a rally in support of President Donald Trump who attempted to quell her peaceful counter-protest.
Laura, holding a sign that read “MAGA is a fascist ideology,” was confronted by a supporter of President Trump holding an oversized Trump flag and blasting country music from a small portable boombox. The young woman kept moving away but the man increased his efforts to block her sign and seemingly intimidate her as journalists were attempting to cover the breaking story. The man, who refused to give us a name, was completely covered with Trump 2020 paraphernalia, shielding his identity. At several points, the man pushed the boombox directly into Laura’s face. Again she managed to retreat
Laura was deeply affected by the chants and attempts at intimidation by some rally participants who were yelling at her. She was called a “pedophile,” “Antifa” and several other terms not suitable for publication.
The confrontation continued for some 10 minutes until someone called Monrovia police and a motorcycle officer managed to deescalate the situation by talking to both parties involved. The police officer questioned both individuals and the man was asked to go to the other side of the street and not intimidate anyone.
The volume and density of the crowd grew as angry people started yelling from their cars, many of whom were giving the time-honored one finger salute.
