Event, Held at SPIN Standard in Downtown Los Angeles, Will Raise Money for Pasadena Campus Improvements

This will not be your father’s backyard ping pong game.
And no matter how you “spin” it, there will be a lot more on the line for the victors than just bragging rights.
On the evening of October 16, 2014, some 25 teams of four will face off at the trendy SPIN Standard ping pong club and bar in downtown Los Angeles during the “Battle of the Paddles” Hillsides Charity Ping Pong Tournament. Local businesses and individuals have paid to sponsor one or more teams to compete in the tournament. The monies raised through sponsorships – and $50 spectator tickets – will be used to fund major improvements to Hillsides aging 101-year-old campus.
“This tournament spotlights Hillsides capital campaign project, which will, among other improvements, create a new expressive arts center for the children, an indoor recreation area and gym, and a large outdoor recreation space,” said Hillsides Chief Executive Officer Joseph M. Costa. “We thank the many sponsors who have stepped up in support of our capital campaign. The beauty of this tournament is that no matter which team wins, in the end, the real winners are the children of Hillsides.”
Sixty-two children live on the campus in Hillsides residential program. The campus provides a safe and stable environment for the children where they can thrive. Children live at Hillsides either because they cannot live at home, have suffered trauma, or have emotional and/or behavioral challenges.
The “Battle of the Paddles” tournament gets underway at 5 p.m. The SPIN Standard is located at 550 S. Flower Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071. Sponsorships of the event are closed, but there is still time to attend as a spectator. Reservations can be made at www.hillsides.org/content/ping-pong-guest. Tickets include two cocktails and hearty hors d’oeuvres.
Presenting sponsors of the event include Brookfield, Capital Group, CommonWealth Partners, City Constructors, Inc., City National Bank , High Lantern,, Mata Construction , Edward J. Mehren III – Northwestern Mutual, Pacific Federal, Rising Realty Partners, SM Ingredients, Inc., and Wolcott Architecture.
Hillsides, headquartered in Pasadena, is a premier provider dedicated to improving the overall well-being and functioning of vulnerable children, youth, and their families throughout Los Angeles County.
