With the news last week that the City of Huntington Beach had offered Monrovia’s City Manager, Oliver Chi, the job in their community, the search began for his replacement. The recruitment flier for the position is already on the city’s website under jobs. Applications for the position are due by 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Interviews of the applicants will be conducted on Sept. 6 and finalist interviews on Sept. 9. According to City Clerk Alice Atkins, there will be several panels interviewing the applicants, including the City Council, department heads, employees and members of the community.

According to the flier, the ideal candidate would “understand the importance that humility plays in the provision of effective leadership; someone who values teamwork, and recognizes the critical importance of people in building a successful organization; someone who has a hands-on approach with deep and granular understanding of all facets of municipal operations; someone who is willing to take calculated risks, and only innovates to advance solutions to Monrovia-centric issues; someone who values consensus building and emphasizes community outreach; and someone who involves and creates a true partnership with the City Council in decision making process.”

That is a tall order, but Chi leaves big shoes to fill behind him.
