Reader Shares Opinion on Transit Oriented Development

All of this transit-centered development assumes assumes a mid-20th Century work-life model that is an outright fantasy for most working people in Los Angeles. People work two or three jobs, 12-18 hours a day, in far-flung locations. Public transit connections are so time consuming and cumbersome that most daily work-related travel must be done via private vehicles; there is no other practical alternative.

This is certainly a good first step towards a theoretical functioning transportation/living system, but such a system must be based on economic realities, not pipe dreams or nostalgia.
