In the midst of a program emergence, Monrovia wrestling continued to build on one of its most successful eras in history as a few of their wrestlers placed very high in this month’s CIF Regionals and Finals.

At the end of January, the Wildcats posted a worthy performance at Rio Hondo League Finals as 11 wrestlers qualified for CIF Regionals on Feb. 8 and Feb. 9.

For the boys, they traveled to Brea Olinda High School where it was Maury Rams who showed spectators what he was made of. The senior finished in fourth place with a 5-2 record, which made him the team’s first wrestler to qualify for the Masters Meet in 10 years.

As for the girls, they headed to Camarillo High School where Mary Tuite (6-1) and Zara Frausto (8-7) finished in third and eighth place, respectively. Their notable efforts qualified them for CIF Finals where Tuite proved once again she’s a force to be reckoned with.

Tuite ended up taking sixth place at finals after going 4-3 on the weekend, which qualified her for the CIF State Championship in Bakersfield on Thursday. This will be the senior’s second appearance at the renowned competition as she also qualified her sophomore year.
