Even though the building itself remains closed, Arcadia Public Library is offering an eight-week summer reading program, virtual storytimes, special performers, and other fun, educational programs.

As parents know, keeping children engaged at home with reading and learning has been a challenge. This summer, children through eighth grade can be registered online to record the number of minutes they read (or are read to) and to enjoy 15 “Super Summer Challengers,” earning up to six virtual badges along the way. Starting July 15, when they’ve completed 500 minutes and completed their badges, they can pick up their reading reward. All recording must be finished by Saturday, Aug. 1, so there’s plenty of time. Reading rewards must be claimed by Sept. 30.

Readers and their parents can check out books from the Library using our “front-door pick-up” service or access digital books through TumbleBook Library, OverDrive, Libby, or Gale eBooks. It’s all available on the Library’s website through the “eBooks and More” page.

Visit the Library’s webpage for more information on virtual storytimes, including “Baby Adventures” and “Storytime Adventures” for ages 2-8. Older children can enjoy Noteworthy Puppets’ production of “Sherlock Homerun: A Whodunit Puppet Musical” online on Saturday, July 25 at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Look for the online “Events Calendar” for instructions on how to view children’s programs. Also check out “Funology”—a virtual hands-on crafting and activities program—and the “Middle Book Meet,” a book discussion of “The Unteachables,” by Gordon Korman, scheduled for July 29.

For more information, call (626) 821-5566 or visit the Arcadia Public Library’s website at ArcadiaCA.gov/Library. The Arcadia Public Library is located at 20 W. Duarte Road, Arcadia. The Library is open via telephone, online, and online chat Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
