A 25-year-old Arcadia man was sentenced March 12, 2019 for stabbing his 18-year-old girlfriend in Temple City two years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Matthew Fay Echauri was sentenced to 10 years and life in state prison with the possibility of parole in case GA100703. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Villalobos also imposed a 10-year criminal protective order for the victim. Deputy District Attorney Melanie Buccat prosecuted the case.
Echauri stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene after an argument at the victim’s Temple City home on March 2, 2017, prosecutors said.

A jury found Echauri guilty in February of four felony counts: one count each of attempted murder and mayhem, as well as two counts of dissuading a witness from reporting a crime with force and violence.
The jury also found true allegations that the defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife, during the commission of the crime and that Echauri personally inflicted great bodily injury upon the victim under circumstances involving domestic violence. The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
