Monrovia High School’s Wildcat theater department staged a successful showing of Urinetown, the musical on Thur, Fri, and Sat, March 9, 10 and 11!

The musical is a three times Tony Award winning comedic satire of the legal system, social irresponsibility, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and musical theater itself!

The production comprised of a talented cast of 33 student actors, complemented with a live orchestra, including four student musicians and an equally talented and dedicated tech crew of 16 students (including a student stage manager and lighting-board operator), all from beginner to advance level students from grades 9th to 12th! This production was directed at MHS by drama teacher Nathanael Overby and choreographed by visiting artist Joelle Martinec. Parent and student volunteers helped make the show run smoothly.

Audiences were treated to professional quality performances in acting, singing, dancing and stagecraft skills. The show was well appreciated by an audience of more than 1000 people from near and far, making this the highest attended show in the drama department. Monrovia community was well represented at all the shows including mayor Tom Adams, the entire city council, MUSD school board members, the superintendent Dr. Thorassian, school teachers, staff and students.

MHS Wildcat Theater’s previous productions include Spamalot, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Godspell, The Crucible, Miracle Worker, Peter Pan and more. At MHS any student can take theater education for FREE at the school.

On April 25, some of the Wildcat Theater students will perform Shakespeare’s King Lear at Pasadena’s famous professional theater A Noise Within for their 25th year anniversary. This is the first time A Noise Within has ever included a high school department in their theatrical season.

You can support the Wildcat Theater with your tax deductible donations and stay in touch for their upcoming productions via Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
