This past year, the State of California signed AB 1732, which amends the State Health and Safety Code by adding Section 118600. The new section requires that by March 1, all single-user toilet facilities for local government entities must be identified as an “all-gender” restroom.

To comply with this new law, staff has assessed City facilities and we have identified two restrooms that need to be updated to come into compliance with this new state law. Those restroom facilities are located at the north end of Monrovia City Hall, and staff is currently making plans to convert the restrooms into “all-gender” toilet facilities. The changeover will include updating the bathroom signs to comply with the California Building Code standards, as defined under Title 24 of the California Code Regulations. Also, a sample of the Title 24 compliant restroom sign is outlined below for reference.
