While the pool at Monrovia High School is currently open, in order to meet Health Department standards, it will soon be undergoing some repairs and improvements.

The pool is jointly used by both the school and the city.

The work will include new lighting and tiles as well as re-plastering and other enhancements.

According to Superintendent Kathy Thorossian, approximately a year ago the school district was told by the Los Angeles County Health Department that the pool would need to be re-plastered, but that it was safe to use during the school year.

Because of several project delays, the plasterwork will not begin until later this month and will, therefore, not be completed until August. This means that the pool will soon be closed for at least four weeks, according to Thorsossin. She said the final decision would be made by the end of this week and that the exact schedule for closure would be known at that time. When the information is available, it will be noted on this publication’s website: www.MonroviaWeekly.com.

As a result of all this, MAX Aquatics, which also uses the pool for its summer swim program, has had to cancel that program. It is issuing refunds to all registered participants. The program’s coach Michael Iafari sent an email to all program participants. For more information about the program, visit, www.MAXaquatics.org.
