Monrovia’s own microbrewery, Pacific Plate Brewery, will hold a fundraising event for the Global Conservation Force (GCF) on Saturday Feb. 20, starting at 5 p.m. Continuing its tradition of giving back to the community (they have previously held fund raisers for other local charities including the Boys and Girls Club of the Foothill), the brewery is turning its attention to assisting GCF in its two pronged approach to protecting endangered species and other animals.
The group’s focus is not just on education people both locally and globally on the issues of surrounding the supply and demand of wildlife trafficking, but also on providing anti-poaching units with gear and supplies. The group’s mission statement explains it simply: “Global Conservation Force is dedicated to saving wildlife from extinction through education, anti-poaching, and conservation efforts.”
On Feb. 20, Pacific Plate will be rolling out a new brew in honor of the GCF: White Rhino IPA which the brewery’s Steve Kooshigian describes as a white IPA brewed with coriander, orange peel, cascade, and centennial hops. Big Jim’s Hickory Smoked BBQ will be on hand from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for your dining pleasure that evening. There are several ways to enjoy the celebration with presale special plates available for sale now. They are a
“Three Meat Plate with Smoked Ribs, Tri-Tip, and Chicken and eight beer flight” for $30 or a “Tri-Tip Sandwich and a Pint (or Tulip)” for $15. Part Conservation Force.
In addition, there will be silent auction items available at the event as well as several other ways to help the group. The silent auction items include Disneyland park-hopper tickets, a Verismo machine and pods (donated by Starbucks), and a membership in the Pacific Plate Mug Club (a $99 value), among many other items.
Monrovia’s trio of crafty brewers is proving yet again that they are good neighbors and citizens, this time not just of Monrovia, but of the world.
