At the funeral for Bob Bartlett, Supervisor Michael Antonovich had proposed that the Maintenance and Operations Yard for the Gold Line be named for the former Monrovia mayor. Noting that “Mayor Bob” had been a longtime advocate of the light rail system, Antonovich said that he had proposed the name change at a meeting of the Metro Board. According to both the Supervisor and John Fasana, mayor of Duarte and a member of the Metro Board of Directors, there should be no opposition to the tribute.
The M & O Yard is located here in Monrovia between California and Shamrock Avenues just South of the 210 Freeway. As Antonovich noted, the Gold Line would not have been able to prove without the city of Monrovia stepping forward with the property for the yard.
In addition to this tribute, the city has established a Bob Bartlett Memorial Tribute Committee, chaired by Mayor Pro Tem Larry Spicer to determine how the city should honor the former mayor. According to the most recent city manager’s report, the report of that committee should be completed in the next week or two.
