The San Gabriel Valley Choral Company presents the Kids in Concert! holiday music workshop. Directed by Dr. Zanaida Robles, Artistic Director of SGVCC, and led by trained SGVCC music staff, this seven-week holiday music workshop helps students in grades 1-8 improve memory, critical thinking, cooperation, concentration, rhythmic coordination, and music literacy skills in a fun and safe community environment. The program costs $35 and need-based financial assistance is available. Space is limited to the first 30 students.
The workshop culminates in a performance with SGVCC in their annual Holiday Concert, held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Monrovia on Dec. 12, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. Each participating student will receive complimentary tickets to the concert for use by immediate family members. Advance-purchase general admission tickets are $15, Students/Seniors are $10, and Kids under 12 are $5 ($20/$12/$5 at the door). Ticket prices are charged to cover expenses, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds. SGVCC wants as many people as possible to enjoy the performance, and all who come are welcome.
Founded in 1995, SGVCC is a mostly volunteer ensemble based in Monrovia. In 2012, consummate conductor and soloist Dr. Zanaida Robles took over the helm as SGVCC’s artistic director. Having recently earned her Doctorate in Musical Arts in Choral Music at the University of Southern California, her prior credits include serving as director of classical choirs for the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts as well as preparing elite choirs for performances with such greats as Josh Groban and Kristin Chenoweth.
