On Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015, the Monrovia Police Department hosted a very successful National Night Out event. National Night Out is a celebration of the Neighborhood Watch Program and programs held across the country on the first Tuesday of August each year. For the event in Monrovia, 314 citizens came out to Library Park to share a meal with police officers and department staff from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the evening. It was a casual event, with police officers in civilian attire spending the two hours in conversation with Monrovia citizens and answering questions about the Monrovia Police Department or law enforcement in general.

Given all that has transpired throughout the country recently to negatively affect citizens’ trust of law enforcement, Monrovia’s National Night Out event served as an opportunity for residents to meet the outstanding men and women who have been tasked with serving the City of Monrovia.

In addition to Police Department personnel, representatives from city code enforcement, Public Services Department, and Fire Department also participated and shared information about city resources, including the award-winning MAP program. Also of note, the Monrovia Police Officers’ Association provided ice cream for everyone who attended.
