“Refreshments will be served” is probably one of the most frequently appearing sentences. It always gets my attention. My first thought is, “What kind of refreshments?”

I’m not big on sweets. When I told one of my new friends that, she said she found it hard to believe. She said she doesn’t trust people who say they don’t like sweets. I told her she could trust me.

I didn’t mean I don’t like sweets – I meant I don’t prefer sweets. I prefer bread, really good bread, especially bread as in sandwiches. Of course I also love hunks of crusty bread dipped in really good olive oil with some herbs.

How about good warm bread slathered with butter? I even like good warm bread that’s not slathered. Only cheap, soft white bread needs to be slathered, preferably with peanut butter. I love peanut butter on anything, even on a spoon.

When refreshments are served, if there are finger sandwiches, I’ll take them over cookies – especially if they can be accompanied by those little celery strips filled with peanut butter. Celery is so healthy. When one eats healthy food, it is OK to follow it up with a chocolate chip cookie, especially those big ones with white chocolate chips and nuts.

Attending too many events where refreshments will be served has its consequences.

A few months ago I noticed that the belt on my fanny pack was becoming more and more snug. Then it went from snug to tight.

One morning, I tried to put it on and I realized the only way it would fit was if I wore it around my neck.

I sorta’ did that for a while, but then I decided that walking with a fanny pack hanging over my shoulder was uncomfortable, impractical, and a little embarrassing. It was time to do something about it.

Now I can happily tell you it fits around my middle just fine. When I really put my mind to something, I can do just about anything I want.

I went to the fabric store. For 50 cents, I bought some strapping and made the belt longer. And, I made it adjustable.

Refreshments anyone?
