Darrell Park Comes in Second Place

Michael Antonovich’s supervisorial seat may soon be transferred over to his former chief of staff, Kathryn Barger, who took in 77,131 votes in the primary held Tuesday, June 7.
Darrell Park received the second-most votes in the primary, likely triggering a November run-off.
According to the LA County registrar, if no candidate receives over 50 percent of the primary votes, then the top two vote-getters will go to a run-off in November.
In a tough race, with lots of cash being spent by many candidates, it became clear that the district would go to Barger early in the evening.
Despite her deep local ties, Barger does not see herself as the heir apparent to her termed-out boss of 28 years who has held office since 1980.
“I don’t see myself as a front-runner, I see myself as someone who is truly fighting for this and is willing to fight for this seat,” she said. “I have never run for political office, and I don’t really have aspirations beyond the Board of Supervisors. … This is not something that is a stepping stone for me.”
A graduate of San Marino High School in 1978, Barger earned a bachelor’s in communications from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1983. She returned home to the San Gabriel Valley where she interned for the newly elected Antonovich, before taking a job in the nation’s capital for a company that provided life insurance to military veterans.

– Barger, Kathryn: 77,131 votes (30 percent).
– Park, Darrell: 38,911 votes (15 percent).
– Huff, Bob: 38,494 votes (15 percent).
– Najarian, Ara: 33,836 votes (13 percent).
– Englander, Mitchell: 32,017 votes (12 percent).
– Carr, Elan: 29,418 votes (11 percent).
– Malone, Billy: 6,224 votes (2 percent).
– Kahlon, Rajpal: 3,001 votes (1 percent).
In the 25th District Senate race it looks like Michael Antonovich and Anthony Portantino are the two top vote-getters. Judy Chu and Adam Schiff will safely return to their respective 27th and 28th Congressional Districts.
