At approximately 6:24 a.m., an officer responded to Peacock Liquor, 419 S. First Ave., regarding an activation of an Arcadia Police Department GPS tracker. Arcadia PD detectives had previously deployed decoy bicycles containing tracking devices to combat the increase in bicycle thefts around the city. An investigation revealed a 41-year-old male from Arcadia took the bicycle and fled the scene. He was located with the bicycle, arrested, and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Around 9:46 p.m., an officer responded to the intersection of Huntington Drive and Centennial Way regarding a two car traffic collision. Upon contacting Party 1, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the driver. Through a series of tests, the officer determined the 20-year-old male from Montebello was driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
May 16
At approximately 3:49 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the area of First Avenue and Duarte Road regarding an activation of an Arcadia Police Department GPS bicycle tracker. An investigation revealed a 39-year-old male from Arcadia took the bicycle and fled the scene. He was located with the bicycle inside his vehicle, arrested, and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
At about 7:17 a.m., an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Santa Anita Avenue and Newman Avenue for false display of registration. An investigation confirmed the registration was in fact expired despite the 2016 tag displayed on the rear license plate. The driver, a 28-year-old male from Covina, also failed to provide proof of insurance. He was cited and released in the field and his vehicle was impounded.
May 17
At about 6:57 a.m., an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Santa Anita Avenue and Newman Avenue for speeding. An investigation revealed the driver lied to the officer about his identity and was driving with a suspended license. He also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The 27-year-old male from Los Angeles was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Around 9:37 p.m., an officer responded to Westfield Santa Anita, 400 S. Baldwin Ave., regarding a vehicle burglary report. The officer discovered an unknown suspect smashed the rear driver side window of the victim’s vehicle and stole a laptop, backpack, and purse. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
May 18
At approximately 3:43 a.m., an officer responded to First Avenue Middle School, 301 S. First Ave., regarding the report of three suspicious subjects trespassing. An investigation revealed three male juveniles climbed a wall to gain entry to the school. They then climbed to the roof and drank an alcoholic beverage. The two 16-year-old males and one 17-year-old male from Arcadia were issued citations and released to their parents.
Just after 9:24 a.m., an officer responded to the 400 block of West Longden Avenue regarding a package theft. An investigation revealed an unknown suspect stole a package containing $100 worth of women’s clothing from the front porch of the residence. The suspect is described as male, 40 to 50-years-old, thin to medium build wearing glasses.
May 19
Just after 5:51 a.m., an officer was dispatched to Arcadia High School, 180 Campus Drive, regarding a vandalism report. An investigation revealed an unknown suspect(s) used a hammer type tool to smash two windows. The damage is estimated at $1,950. The investigation is ongoing.
Around 10:09 a.m., an officer initiated a consensual contact with a subject in the parking lot of Motel 6, 225 Colorado Place. An investigation revealed the subject had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The 34-year-old male from Los Angeles was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
May 20
At approximately 12:42 a.m., an officer responded to the underground parking garage at 411 E. Huntington Drive regarding a suspicious occupied vehicle. Upon contacting the driver, the officer detected symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Through a series of tests, the officer determined the 51-year-old male from Monrovia was under the influence of methamphetamine and driving with a suspended license. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
At about 12:54 p.m., an officer responded to the 1100 block of Volante Drive regarding the report of a residential burglary. An investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) entered the residence through an open bathroom window, ransacked the bedrooms and master bathroom before fleeing. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located. The investigation is ongoing.
May 21
At about 7:48 a.m., an officer was dispatched to Embassy Suites, 211 E. Huntington Drive, regarding a theft report. An investigation revealed the victim was at a table in the dining area having breakfast with his wife. The victim briefly left his wife at the table with his bag placed in an empty seat. One suspect, impersonating a hotel guest, distracted the victim’s wife while another suspect used his jacket to conceal the bag. Both suspects fled the scene before the victim realized his bag was missing. The investigation is ongoing. Both suspects are described as male, approximately 50 to 55-years-old, 5-feet-9-inches tall, with a heavy build.
Just after 7:04 p.m., an officer responded to Sport Chalet, 400 S. Baldwin Ave., regarding a male detained by loss prevention for shoplifting. An investigation revealed the suspect selected golf clubs then exited the store, failing to make payment. The same subject returned to the store a short time later and attempted to steal a second set of golf clubs. Additional stolen property was located in the suspect’s vehicle totaling $2,374. The 27-year-old male from San Diego was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
