Planning Commission Denies Hollis Lane Scheme

The Arcadia city planners denied Marvin Fong’s plan for a large development at 2236 Hollis Lane. The proposed project was four times larger than the existing property, which upset a grassroots group effort to prevent “mansionization.”

“Continuance of Modification No. MP 14-14 and Single-Family Architectural Design Review No. SFADR 14-95 with a Categorical Exemption under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for a new two-story, Craftsman-style residence with an attached two-car garage at 2236 Hollis Lane.” This item was continued from the Aug. 11, 2015, meeting.

The Planners cited the applicant’s lack of effort in working to find a middle ground between the developer and neighbors who strongly opposed the project.

There is a five working day appeal period after the approval/denial of the applications. The applicant will likely appeal the decision. Appeals are to be filed by 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015.
