
Estonian and Finnish Choirs Join LA Children’s Chorus for Free Concert July 22 Pasadena
The sounds of Scandinavia and the Baltic come to Pasadena when Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC), led by Artistic Director Anne Tomlinson, presents the Estonian TVC Girls’ Choir and Finland’s Vox Aurea (“The Golden Voice”) in a free concert featuring all three choirs on Wednesday, July 22, 7 p.m., at Pasadena Presbyterian Church. Vox Aurea, led by Sanna Salminen, makes its first Southland appearance since 2009, thrilling audiences with a range of traditional Finnish folk songs and classical selections that evoke the peaceful and expansive landscape of Scandinavia. Record-Breaking Crowd at Historic Arcadia Elks Lodge Event
Arcadia Former Mayor and Elks Founder Jim Helms at Arcadia Chamber Mixer
A record-breaking crowd of 157 attended the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce’s mixer/ribbon cutting for the Arcadia Elks Lodge 2025 on Thursday, June 23rd. A good time was had by all. A handful of first-timers at the Lodge signed up to be members of the civic group.
Chamber CEO Scott Hettrick noted that the Arcadia Elks were formed in 1957 by former Arcadia Mayor Jim Helms, a lawyer who was also recently presented a Business Icon tribute. Hettrick introduced an emotional Helms, who received loud applause. Many attendees were setting foot in the spacious lodge for the first time.
Current Exalted Ruler of the Elks, Robert DiGioia, said the Elks is a national organization, 150 years old, serving our nation’s veterans, youth, and the local community. The local Elks Lodge puts on a number of big events each year including serving 600 meals to our veterans and providing them with gifts during the Christmas holiday. They also support scouting and are greatly involved with handicapped children.

Beastly Ball Raises $1,044,000 Million
More than 800 guests partied under the stars at the L.A. Zoo Saturday night (June 20th, 2015) when the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association’s (GLAZA) 45th Annual Beastly Ball honored Los Angeles City Council Member Tom LaBonge (District 4) and 99 Cents Only Stores while bestowing the Tom Mankiewicz Leadership Award on singer, dancer, actor, film and television producer, author and philanthropist Lance Bass, who shot to fame as a member of pop band NYSNC. Among the crowd were GLAZA Co-Chairman Betty White and Richard Lichtenstein, actresses Pauley Perrette and Sarah Michelle Gellar (both former Mankiewicz Award winners), 99 Cents Only Stores’ Jason Kidd (Senior Vice President of Store Operations), Bass’ husband Michael Turchin, actresses Valerie Bertinelli and Carolyn Hennesy, Paramount Pictures’ COO Frederick Huntsberry (a GLAZA Trustee), comedian Jimmy Pardo, L.A. Zoo Director John Lewis, GLAZA President Connie Morgan, Los Angeles’ First Lady Amy Wakeland and City Council Members Robert Blumenfeld, Mitchell Englander, Paul Koretz, Mitchell O’Farrell and David Ryu.
Summer Soiree at Gilb Museum

Native American Hoop Dancer
Five-time world champion hoop dancer Terry L. Goedel will share a native story of plants and animals using 21 circular hoops. The story describes the life of a small eagle that grows and develops. Terry L. Goedel is a Yakama/Tulalip Indian originally from Washington State and has been dancing for many years.

Arcadia Chamber of Commerce Love Lunch moves to its most spectacular venue yet on July 22nd, The FrontRunner restaurant at Santa Anita Park race track, 285 W. Huntington Drive.

A special area of tables on the front row along the tall glass windows will be reserved from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Arcadia Chamber members’ lunch guests. ‘Upstairs Downstairs’ at Gamble House
For a limited time this summer the Gamble House will once again open its servants’ quarters for exclusive 90-minute “Upstairs Downstairs” tours. Visitors to the Gamble House from July 30th through August 16th will be able to compare the living quarters of the served with those “in service.” Admission is $20 per person. Advance purchase is not required but highly recommended as space is limited per tour and tours often sell out. It is suggested that tickets be purchased early to guarantee desired tour date and time. Tickets may be purchased either online or by phone. Walk-ins also welcome when space is available. Tours take place on Thursdays through Sundays, every hour from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
