
Three Events Encourage Learning, Community, and Fun!
Barks and Books
Have some summer fun, practice your reading, and come read aloud to a real live dog at the Arcadia Public Library on Saturday, June 20 and Saturday, July 18 at 11 a.m. There will be a specially trained dog waiting just for you. This program is specially designed for emerging readers just finishing kindergarten through fifth grade and is made possible by the generous time and efforts of the Pasadena Humane Society.
Duān Wŭ Jié: Dragon Boats and the Summer Sun
The Dragon Boat Festival is a folk festival celebrated in many areas of southern China during the fifth lunar month of the year. The festival remembers the story of poet and minister Chu Yuan (340-278 BC) and brings people together in celebration to bring health and good luck to the community.
Come to the Hands-On Saturday program on June 20 at 10 a.m. at the Museum Education Center and be a part of this mirthful time of year by making your own lóng zhōu or lóng chuán (dragon boat), ziāng bāo (sachet necklace), and eat sweet chī zòng zi (sweet rice balls).

Toe Tappin’ Toddler Time
What better way to spend time with your toddler this summer than visiting the Library and hearing and sharing in some age appropriate stories and songs while also discovering some excellent read aloud stories to take home? While you are at the Library, visit the Parent/Teacher resource center to find some fun activity books to try with your child. There is everything from The Everything Toddler Activities Book by Joni Levine to Crafty Kids: Fun Projects for You and Your Toddler by Rosie Hankin.
Reading aloud to your child is one of the best ways to get your child kindergarten-ready and to develop a love of reading. No registration is needed during the summer. This special storytime especially designed for ages 19-47 months of age will be offered at the Arcadia Public Library this summer at two different times. There is the Tuesday evening storytime at 6:30 p.m. beginning June 30 and the Wednesday morning storytime at 10:15 a.m., beginning July 1. These storytimes are weekly and will take place through August 5.
