A Pasadena police officer has been charged with insurance fraud for allegedly participating in an “Ice Bucket Challenge” despite claiming she had a lower back injury, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Jaime Robison (DOB 4/14/76) pleaded not guilty on Friday to four counts of insurance fraud in case BA435637. She is scheduled to return to court on June 10 in Department 50 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Bail was set at $40,000.
Deputy District Attorney Arunas Sodonis of the Healthcare Fraud Division said Robison is accused of exaggerating injuries on two occasions to collect disability benefits. In one instance, Robison received disability benefits, even though she was on a video posted online in July 2014 that allegedly showed her taking part in an “Ice Bucket Challenge” where she picked up a five-gallon bucket containing ice water and poured it on a fellow officer. She also is accused of insurance fraud in 2012 when she received disability pay for more than a year. Total losses are estimated to be up to $117,000. If convicted as charged, Robison faces a possible maximum sentence of six years, four months in state prison to be served in county jail. The case remains under investigation by the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation.
