Standing in front of supporters, Senator Bob Huff Thursday announced his candidacy for Los Angeles County’s 5th Supervisorial District seat that will be vacated when Mike Antonovich retires in 2016.
Huff told supporters that “he will put his experience to work by creating good jobs, addressing regional traffic problems, ensuring reliable water supplies and protecting neighborhoods from crime.”
Huff said “his experience as a leader in San Gabriel Valley regional government and leader in the state Legislature would allow him to hit the ground running.”
Senator Huff noted that “he is already working on legislation to expand L.A. County’s economy by working to bring new manufacturing, entertainment and aerospace jobs here. “
As Supervisor, Huff promised “to personally recruit new employers to the county and continue his efforts to create good paying jobs that had earned him 100% ratings from both the Chamber of Commerce and National Federation of Independent Business.”
Huff voiced a strong commitment to protecting L.A. County neighborhoods from crime, drugs and gangs. Of the 300 or so predominantly Asian-American audience listened intently on the Republican’s hopes for LA’s future, Huff’s wife Mei-Mei looked on.
Senator Huff indicated that he had already helped Los Angeles County address problems in its foster care programs by authoring legislation that protected children by giving L.A. County full access to background checks of prospective foster families and employees of foster family agencies.
Huff also led efforts to apprehend and punish criminals involved in under-aged sex trafficking by making it a felony to purchase sex services from a minor and supporting wiretap efforts on human trafficking organizations.
Huff said “he is currently working with law enforcement and residents to devise policies to govern the use of police body cameras to both improve public safety and smooth relations between the law enforcement and the community.”
At his announcement, Bob committed to “beefing up probation services and ensuring the county has the assets it needs to better manage criminals released from state prison because of realignment.”
Honored by Mobility 21 for his leadership to alleviate traffic congestion, Huff has been working actively to reduce congestion choke points.
As Supervisor, Bob will continue his efforts to eliminate bottlenecks at freeway interchanges while working to improve mass transit in the San Gabriel, Antelope and San Fernando Valleys.
One of the lead negotiators in the statewide water bond to build two new water storage facilities and clean up contaminated drinking water in the San Gabriel Valley, Bob’s efforts will help ensure that L.A. County will have the clean, reliable water supplies it needs.
Bob concluded his remarks by thanking all in attendance and by committing to “use his skills and experience to build a brighter future for Los Angeles County.”
