Arcadia to deliberate Implementation of Phase 1 of Prohibited Water Use at Aug 5 meeting

Arcadia Public Works Director, Tom Tait, say that as a result of the State Water Board’s recent adoption of an Emergency Regulation for statewide urban water conservation, “the City of Arcadia will recommend at the August 5 City Council meeting the implementation of Phase 1 Prohibited Water Uses of the City’s Water Conservation Plan. These Phase I mandatory prohibitions will comply with the State’s use prohibitions, and are specific to Arcadia.”
Many of the current voluntary conservation methods residents are already practicing are contained in Phase I, such as refraining from hosing off sidewalks, and adjusting watering schedules to prevent evaporation of water from landscaping. To date, water usage by Arcadia water customers has been comparable to usage last year. Although, the 20 percent water conservation goal issued in February by the City Council was not achieved, it is important to note that there was about 60 percent less rainfall this year compared to last year. It is reasonable to assume that Arcadia water customers did indeed conserve outdoor water consumption through efficient use during periods of sparse or no rainfall.

Arcadia’s current conservation program via the Public Works Services Department will continue to encourage residents to use water efficiently and will inform residents of potential water waste practices and ways to reduce their indoor and outdoor water consumption.
