Jack Scott to Retire as Chancellor State Community College system
The chancellor of California Community Colleges is slated to retire as head California’s state college system.
Former State Senator Jack Scott said Tuesday that he will retire on Sept. 1, after nearly six decades in higher education and public service.
Since becoming chancellor in January 2009, Scott has helped the 112-campus community college system weather deep cuts in state funding that led to fee increases, course cuts and reduced enrollment.
The 78-year-old Scott has also focused on making it easier for community college students to transfer to the University of California and California State University systems.
Scott spent 12 years in the state legislature, where he chaired the Senate Committee on Education. Prior to this, Scott served as president of PCC and Cypress College.
