JPL and Foothill Unity Help Get Kids Ready to go Back to the Future…School that is!
Thursday’s annual Back to School giveaway sponsored by Foothill Unity Center helped prepare 1,800 plus local needy students for school. The event marks the 13th year of the largest single back to school giveaway in the area. Each year for the past decade the event has been held at Santa Anita Race Track.
In addition to the usual goodies for the kids, JPL stepped up to give students another way to think. They had miniature Rover set up that took everyone back to the future…especially when you got to experience the ride through 3-D glasses.
Students from K-12 selected backpacks, school uniforms and other clothing, as well as the other vital school supplies all at no cost thanks to numerous organizations’ donations which are coordinated by executive director Joan Whitenack of Foothill Unity Center.
Donations from from the Tzu Chi Foundation, from Monrovia Reads and dental and vision screenings from the USC School of Dentistry and the Western University College of Optometry were part of the day’s activities.
