A 21-year-old man was sentenced to 70 years and eight months to life in state prison after he was convicted of kidnapping and raping four women over several months in 2013, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Michael Tamayo (DOB 5/12/93) of Los Angeles was convicted by a jury on Sept. 25, 2014, of 14 counts in case BA414983: three counts of assault with intent to commit a felony, three counts of robbery, two counts of assault and one count each of kidnapping, kidnapping to commit another crime, rape by force/fear, sodomy by use of force, forcible oral copulation and grand theft from person. At yesterday’s sentencing, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Kelvin D. Filer also ordered the defendant to register as a sex offender for life. Deputy District Attorney Emily Spear, who prosecuted the case, said in April 2013 the defendant approached a woman on the street at gunpoint and forced her into his car. While in the vehicle, Tamayo raped and sodomized the victim, the prosecutor added. He also made the victim orally copulate him. Tamayo then took the woman’s purse before he pushed her out of the car. Two days later, Tamayo approached a second woman on the street, forced her into his car at gunpoint and then raped her in an alley, the prosecutor said. He also made the victim orally copulate him. In July 2013, Tamayo met a third woman at a hotel, where he sexually assaulted her at gunpoint, the prosecutor said. The next month, Tamayo forced a fourth woman into a car, raped and sodomized her. The defendant also forced the victim orally copulate him, the prosecutor said. In each of the incidents, Tamayo stole the victims’ cell phones.
