Dave Kelty, a retired Alhambra Firefighter, digs away; trying to get mud out of his driveway on Highland Street in Monrovia after last Thursday night’s rains on December 11.
Kelty, who served 37 years on the fire department, took it in stride. He says that they had over two inches of rainfall overnight. He says the same thing happens every year with the rainfall and that the mud just “comes from one place and has been doing so since 1980.”
Minor flooding was reported in Arcadia as well as Monrovia but no major incidents to date.
Sierra Madre Elementary School was closed Friday due to a power outage caused by a storm that hit San Gabriel Valley. Pasadena Unified School District officials said in a press release that parents were notified about the school closure in a phone message sent early Friday morning.
Power outages affected nearly 50,000 customers of Southern California Edison and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, officials said.
Reported power outages in the San Gabriel Valley affected Arcadia, South Pasadena, Sierra Madre, Altadena, Alhambra and Rosemead, according to Southern California Edison.
PUSD officials said Sierra Madre Middle School did not lose power.
Classes were scheduled to resume at Sierra Madre Elementary School Monday December 15.
