Earlier this week, the final crossing closure, Mountain Avenue, was fully reopened to traffic just south of Duarte Road. This followed many months of work at the crossing and the intersection with Duarte Rd, including two long-term full closures of the street. Crews were able to re-open the street ahead of schedule, with extra shifts and overtime. Over the next several weeks, the medians on Duarte Rd will be improved and then the area will be re-paved and re-striped. The crossing and intersection work will be completed later this month, marking completion of all grade crossing improvement work for the Pasadena to Azusa project.
Also this week, the canopies were placed at the Irwindale station, where work on walls and the station parking structure are fully underway. Irwindale is the last of the six stations to have its canopies.
And Thursday, Arcadia Mayor John Wuo welcomed Arcadia’s newest landmark to the Arcadia Transit Plaza. The 25-foot tall clock tower will be the focal point for the future community gathering place, and was fabricated at a special studio in Cincinnati, Ohio. The clock was designed to fit the motif of the Arcadia station, which abuts the plaza to the north. Both are designed to be reminiscent of the historic Santa Anita Racetrack, in color and characteristic art deco elements. The transit plaza will be completed early next month.
