Los Angeles County Denounces ISIS-Led Genocide Of Religious Groups In Northern Iraq

The Board of Supervisors voted to support a resolution condemning and denouncing the genocide of religious groups in Northern Iraq perpetrated by the “Islamic State of Iraq” and “Al Sham,” commonly known as ISIS. Recent reports of the genocide include wide-scale beheadings and torture of men, women and children, people being buried alive, and Yazidi women forced into sexual slavery.

“Today’s action joins the worldwide effort to condemn ISIS for participating in the genocide of the Iraqi people,” said Antonovich. “Our Board took a stand and joined Pope Francis and world leaders from Egypt, Britain, and France along with religious, civic and political leaders around the globe who have condemned the slaughter of the innocents by the Islamic State terrorists.”

The Board of Supervisors will send a letter to President Obama, all 88 cities in Los Angeles County, and town councils expressing the Board’s support in using American diplomatic and military resources to assist religious minorities struggling to survive.
